Background

In many urban parts of Mumbai, the daily wage workers and domestic migrants face repeated issues in accessing food security, healthcare, and just general welfare systems. Although there have been many government official schemes and some labour protections exist, most of these vulnerable individuals stay excluded due to their lack of awareness, documentation, and irregular living and working conditions. Many migrant workers in construction, sanitation, and other informal labour sectors largely struggle to obtain essential identification documents like Aadhar cards, Pan cards, or even bank accounts that are required to access welfare schemes and services. 

Food insecurity continues to affect these communities, their irregular wages and unstable employment lead to the rising living costs which very often leave the workers with inadequate access to nutritious meals and healthcare. Moreover many such migrant workers lack the awareness of their own labour rights and social protections, they do not know the avenues for legal recourse in cases when they are exploited or work in unsafe environments. Despite their being existing public welfare mechanisms, the absence of guidance and assistance may halt many individuals from fully benefiting from the system. 

Realising the importance of filling such gaps, RightTrack was designed as an initiative that would seek to empower migrants and workers through food security, provision of documentation materials, information about their rights, as well as various other factors. Legal awareness programs, educational information videos, documentation help material, fundraisers for the provision of basic needs like food and healthcare, all form a part of the plan that aims to make it easier for people to avail themselves of the available services.
